EMPLOYMENT

Employment is a problem which the people are always complaining about. In the UAE the population is growing and the number of the expat people is increasing too.

Although jobs in the UAE are varied, people are still complaining, and this is due to many reasons. The level of education of the locals has changed and the number of the growing private companies has increased. This means that the employment is difficult for both locals and non locals. However it is easier for the non locals because they do not mind working with private companies and the reason is they do not care about the pension benefits, they only care about the end of service. Sometimes they accept low salaries which makes them the most wanted employees for the private companies. Government companies and authorities normally look for the benefits of locals as they are forced to. The government also is giving a big effort to increase the number of working Emiratis in the private sector and the big positions in the public sector.

The government is forcing the private companies to employ the Emiratis with at
least 10% of the employees. However they are disturbing the Emiratis and indirectly they are forcing theEmiratis to resign and they keep on saying “the Emiratis do not want to work, they only want to sit behind the desk and keep on talking in the phone”. This statement about the Emiratis is wrong, they are ready to work everywhere and any type of job. The rising cost of expatriate workers is placing a growing burden on employers in Dubai, according to a report by Mercer Human Resource Consulting, entitled Managing the UAE's HR Environment. The main problem with the locals is most of them like to get high salaries as the public sector offers, however the private cannot. The report shows that average salaries for expatriates rose by over 6% last year. Daily allowances rose by over 20%, and multinationals now pay an average rate of US$ 475 a day for executive expatriates on short-term assignments in Dubai.

The government is looking for solutions to help the Emiratis to find jobs in both private and public sectors. One of the solutions is to force the Emiratis to accept low salaries which the private sector offers them if the Emiratis are not highly educated. This step is done by ending the serves of the employee if he is not highly educated. Another solution is the service provided from the government to the private companies which employed Emiratis who are better than the others. For example these companies can have as many employees as they need while the others are restricted. However the government is making expiations for the employment moreover they made some authorities just for employing the Emiratis like Tawdheef is. Tawdheef, The Recruitment Show Abu Dhabi, is the region most important and influential recruitment event open to the general public. ADNOC also is having a section which is taking care of the Emiratis. This section's task is to employ the Emiratis and distribute them to the ADNOC group of companies. By this the government is making sure that the Emiratis percentage is getting increased among the private and public sectors and everyone will get more than a chance to get a job.

Technology

Technology became an important matter in our lives. Tracing technology in all of its majors is almost impossible because it is running very fast. It also costs a lot of money just to be updated. Let's take the control system of a gas plant as an example. It was pneumatic with big panels and became computerized with one or more small stations.

In the past the control system of the gas plant was controlled though a big pneumatic panel. The panel operator had to keep waking and watching the controllers during all the shift time. There were around 300 controllers divided into four groups (level, temperature, pressure and vibrations). These four variables are the most changeable and should be watched all the time. Of course there are some high and low alarms which help the operator, but they are not enough.

Nowadays technology came in between and simplified the control system. It became easier and quicker. Cegelec has developed an integrated distributed control system (DCS), whose robust yet flexible design deliv3ers all the functions specific to each user’s requirements. Asab and Bab Integrated Control System (ABICS) project executed by Cegelec in 2005 involved the installation of advanced computerized systems to replace the original pneumatic control systems currently in service at Asab and Bab. The panel operator should sit in front of the computer and watch the variables while the new control system DCS controls them exactly like the autopilot in the planes as you can see in the picture. He can interfere at any time especially if there is an emergency. “The supervisor can supervise the panel operator's work from his desk not like in the past when he had to keep standing behind him. Also the general manager can access and have a look at them from his office in Abu Dhabi while the plant is located in Habshan which is 150 kms away from Abu Dhabi” said Ananth (shift supervisor in Habshan).

Using this type of control system gave the panel operator some confidence and flexibility during work. It is digital and accurate, not like the old system which was giving some values which were around the set point. The DCS has as many details as you want of software. The panel operator has just to navigate through the pages while he is sitting at his desk, while with the old system he had to walk from one controller to another. A feature of this system is that as many controllers as needed can be added in the future without the need of increasing the size of the panel.

Imagine the life without TVs, cars or computers. It would be much different and might be difficult. Technology is made by humans but gives the humans big change and flexibility in the life in general. Also the life became much faster than before. The news can be distributed around the world using TVs in just five or ten minutes maximum. Or you can share or search for any information while you are sitting at your desk. Only internet connection is needed to read, find or watch a movie during the present time. This means the people do not care about reading like before, because they can find any information they need by just clicking on the keyboard of their computers. Not like in the past when they had to go to the library to buy or read the book they need. Maybe they did not have a car or even money to rent a taxi.

Electricity is another example of technology. It is a main utility used in the houses. Think how it is produced! Power turbines have to be manufactured and operated. It is very accurate and has many types of instruments where the people have to be careful with using or dealing with them. At the end we get it to use it with the technology which we have in our houses.

In summary we can say the technology is controlling our lives and we started to feel that a house without a TV or internet connection is nothing or still missing a major utility which we cannot live without.

Bugatti Vs Porsche 911

Cars became an important utility especially in the UAE. Some people like to have big cars while the others like to have small cars. Sport cars became almost the most wanted even if they are expensive. For example the Porsche 911 is expensive but people buy it while the Bugatti is another famous car but cannot be owned by everybody. In this essay I will compare and contrast between these two cars.

Both of these cars are the super sport cars which have only two seats and are very powerful. They are famous and have very good slippery design. They have the same size of wheels which is 17-inch and they are stable on the street during high and low speeds. The driver feels confident while driving. During driving both of them are quiet and have very high performance.
The differences between them are more than the similarities. For example the horse power of the Bugatti is 1001 hp while the Porsche 911 is 500 hp. The torque of the Bugatti is 922 n and on the other hand the Porsche 911 is 700 only. This means that the Bugaati is much more powerful and that is what makes its speed reach around 407 km/hour. The Porsche 911 can run up to 312 kph maximum. With its reduced weight, the 911 offers better fuel efficiency, managing 24.1 to 24.8mpg, while emitting less carbon dioxide - 18 per cent less, in fact. This attempts to further widen the gap between Porsche and its competitors in the green approach to sports car construction (Gulf News, August 2008). The Porsche casts $ 130,000 which makes it easier to be bought by many people. “On this basis, I’d be similarly dismissive of the Bugatti Veyron. I mean it’s on sale now at £840,000. And, for that money, you could buy a house” said Jeremy Clarkson.
In my opinion the Bugatti is faster and more powerful. Hennessey Performance Company thinks this ungodly power will make the Bugatti Veyron GT crack the 0-62mph dash in just 2.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 262mph. Although it is very expensive, it is nice to dream to own a Bugatti Veyron one day.

Mercedes-Benz SLS

Mercedes-Benz is one of the fabulous automobiles which combine luxury and quality. It also keeps on challenging the best automobiles in the market.

Mercedes-Binz SLS is a project where AMG is challenging the market and for the first time in its history, AMG takes responsibility for developing a whole vehicle from scratch, the all aluminum SLS. It is a result of 37 months of development programme. Volker Mornhinweg the head of AMG said “this is a big name for us, in the eyes of our customers and also for my team”.

Design took the priority after performance and safety during manufacturing the SLS. It is almost totally fabricated by hand and 4% of its body is made of steel, while the rest is made of aluminum to make it as light as possible. Christopher Jung said “the aluminum spaceframe is the best compromise between light weight and cost”. The tools and materials are preheated up to 500 degrees Celsius to aid deep drawing. The SLS is made for the track. Moreover it is made to be enjoyable with the luxury.

The AMG development director Tobias Mores said “the most important thing is to have a car which always feels secure”. He also said “some competitors have spherical bearings, but we don’t because they are not up to our standards. Moreover we say that corrosion after 10 years is simply unacceptable“. AMG worked with 2 companies for the tyres Michelin Pilot and Continental Sport for wheels which are cheaper and lighter. The brake discs are made by SGL Carbon which is better in terms of thermal conductivity.

The SLS has more than 40 prototype vehicles around the world since the summer of 2008. By the time the development programme concludes in January 2010, these cars will have clocked up more than 1.25 million kms at proving grounds and on public roads.
